Prairie Scenes - Wildflowers & Spacious Skies

The wildflowers are developing later than normal, due to the late spring. The positive is that we have had cool weather and moisture --- as opposed to dry weather which is never welcome in the spring in North Dakota.

Northern Lights from December 14, 2006

Check out my online brochure of the northern lights. Enjoy the chase!

The Northern Lights / Aurora Borealis

Note: I haven't posted any northern lights photographs as of late as we are in a lull - in fact, the next cycle has been delayed. I am hoping that we will see things pick up in the 2010-2012 timeframe. Time will tell!

Background Information on Web Site

The purpose of this web site is to highlight photographs from one small, but significant location in North Dakota - my "home" farm located 15 miles north of Bismarck, ND (Geographic Longitude = 100W 47' 42"; Geographic Latitude = 47N 03' 34"; Corrected Magnetic Latitude = 56; Zenithal limiting magnitude = 6.7).  You might be surprised at the beauty that you can see year round on the prairies of North Dakota (and from just one small location in the state).  Come back and visit!

Other Information

Site online as of April 2001 (Prairie Journal features occasional entries of photographs and writings on the prairie - and was a "blog" long before "blogs" became mainstream).

All stories & photographs are copyright.  Do not post on other web sites.
